For the first time in 53 years, the streets of Lower Manhattan are turning blue and orange.
Following their thrilling Game 5 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks have officially secured the 2026 NBA Championship. To celebrate a title more than half a century in the making, New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani has announced an official ticker-tape parade to honor the champions.
If you are planning to witness this historic celebration, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming festivities.
Event Schedule & Route
The parade will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, rain or shine. Millions of fans are expected to pour into Manhattan, meaning early arrival is highly recommended.
- Start Time: 10:00 AM EST
- The Route: The procession will kick off at Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan. It will move directly north along Broadway, marching through the iconic Canyon of Heroes.
- The Finale: The parade will wrap up at City Hall Park (Broadway and Chambers Street).
Post-Parade Ceremony & Honors
Immediately following the conclusion of the march, Mayor Mamdani will host an official championship ceremony on City Hall Plaza.
During the presentation, members of the Knicks roster, coaching staff, and front office will be awarded Keys to the City to commemorate their grit and resilience. Furthermore, the city will immortalize this team by adding a permanent plaque honoring the 2026 Knicks along the Broadway parade path, joining the ranks of historic world leaders, astronauts, and iconic athletes.
To keep the energy going into the night, City Hall and various municipal landmarks, including the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building and Brooklyn Borough Hall, will be illuminated in blue and orange.
What Makes This Championship Historic?
Aside from snapping a championship drought that dates back to 1973, this particular Knicks squad carved out a unique place in basketball history:
A Historic Double: With this victory, the 2026 New York Knicks became the first team in NBA history to win both the regular-season NBA Cup and the NBA Finals championship in the exact same season.
Led by an unforgettable postseason run from Finals MVP Jalen Brunson—who erupted for 45 points in the 94-90 series-clinching game—the Knicks closed out the Finals 4-1.
Tips for Attending Fans
- Commute Smart: Mass transit is your best friend. The MTA will be adjusting service to handle heavy volume, but expect major street closures to vehicular traffic all across Lower Manhattan.
- Where to Watch: The entirety of lower Broadway will be packed. If you want a spot close to the barriers, plan to arrive several hours before the 10:00 AM start time.
- Bring the Spirit: As Mayor Mamdani perfectly summarized in his official city press release: “Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong.”
